What’s in the Madame Tussauds Istanbul

Before the opening of the museum in Turkey, the organizers interviewed locals and tourists about what kind of figures they wanted to see. Then they contacted these people or their relatives to find out about their preferred poses and costumes. Today the museum exhibits 55 exhibits.

The main figure of the exhibition is the first President of Turkey, Ataturk. Local people respect him for maintaining independence and contribution to the development of the country. Here is the figure of one of his adoptive daughters Sabiha Gokcen, who was the first female pilot during the war.

The museum has an image of Suleiman I the Magnificent who expanded the borders of the Ottoman Empire at times. Another Turkish Sultan which is represented here is the Mehmed II the Conqueror. He became famous for seizing Constantinople and proclaiming it as the capital of the Ottoman Empire.

In addition to the Turkish sultans, there was a place for poets. Mawlana Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi wrote one of the outstanding poems in the Muslim world, “Masnavi”. Another “master of the pen”, Yashar Kemal, supported the idea of an independent Kurdistan. He was nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in literature.

Not without outstanding architects. Mimar Sinan is the man who developed the Suleymaniye project. For 50 years as an architect, he built hundreds of buildings: mosques, palaces, schools, bridges, fountains, and so on.
